I decided to take this course for a few different reasons. One, being that I’ve already had Dr. Esa as a professor in the past. Two, is because I've always loved short stories (especially stories based off myths, etc.). The other reason I wanted to take this class was because I’m really interested in learning about fairy-tales and such from other cultures. As Americans we know the typical fairy-tales like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. However, us Americans don’t know much about the tales from other cultures all over the world.

I plan on majoring in Cinema because I love movies. I plan on trying to make films one day, so I feel like this class will help me with that for a few different reasons. Reading more of these stories will help expand my imagination a bit. I feel as though I am already a creative writer, but some of these fairy-tales may inspire me to write something similar. Another reason I feel as though I would benefit from this class, is because of all the reading. I don’t mind reading at all, but if something bores me it is very hard for me to even finish the next page. Fairy-tales kind of suck you into the book in a way, which will make the readings a lot more bearable in my opinion.

I’m also excited to learn about the beginnings of these fairy-tales that I have heard of since I was a child. Since we will be analyzing the stories, I think I’m going to find out a lot of good and bad things about how these folk and fairy-tales came to light. I’m excited for this course and to learn more about these tales I haven’t heard of yet.
